Books that changed my lifeI am very honored to be allowed to do this wednesday blog post. To be honest I have no idea what to write about but we will see what this takes me. And there will be a giveaway :)
So maybe I should start with a little self introduction. My name is Angelica and I have so many nicknames, most used is Angie, Panda and Yuuha. Yuuha is used most! I am a Swedish native who has been travelling and working in so many countries. Right now I live in Czech Republic but we are planning to move to UK as soon as we can. I work as a translator and enjoy my work. I am a nerd, a book nerd, game nerd, manga and anime nerd… Japanese music nerd (J-rock and Visual kei) and so on. I am a nerd and I am proud of it. In this post I want to talk about books and books that has changed my life and my point ofview in thing. The first book I remember is a children's book that I made my parents read to me a billion times. It';s about an Eagle who is afraid of heights so he can't fly.. The book is swedish and called Örjan: den höjdrädda örnen. I have always been around book and got many books. I was the only child and I never interacted good with other children or people so I was often alone reading, playing and then playing games. When I got older I read the normal girls book like Nancy Drew and horse books. There was a series I loved as a young teen, I have forgotten the name but it was about a girl who was a vampire (I think) and her struggle in life and school. It is not much to go for but I read it for so long ago, like 15-17 years ago so I don't remember much of it but Iknow it had a big impact on me and my reading. It opened me up to other books, to dark fantasy and later on Fantasy. I have friends who don't think that book can change someone's life but this book and other books after that has changed my life and helped me survive. To make it short, my life has been very dark. I was a troubled teen and had to move to my father and his new family. That didn't end well. We were always fighting, I was abused mentally, I had to buy everything onmy own, I was not allowed to eat the food in the house. This made me a good thief and liar. It also made me end up with the wrong people.Drugs, alcohol, a friend did commit suicide made me even worse and i was never happy. I ended up locked in my room reading when I didn't fight with my stepmom. By this time my dad was never home. When I was 18 I got diagnosed with severe chronic depression with suicidal tendencies AND Borderline. I can look back now, and say that if I didn't have books I would be dead now. My life has never been easy but I choose not to give up. I am a fighter and I find peace reading and in books. Right now I am rereading some of my favorite books and right now I am on Dracula by Bram Stoker and I had forgotten how great that book is. I have known I enjoyed it but now rereading it again, it shows how great it is and it is one of the best vampire and horror books ever written. It is so complex. So I said earlier I am a nerd and I have it even inked on my skin. I love Harry Potter so I got the Dark Mark (Voldemort's mark for you who isn't so well aware for the books and movies) on my left forearm. I reread the series at least once a year and my all time favorite quote is from that series “After all this time?” “Always,” said Snape.” ― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows That little word “Always” is so well said and written. Not long ago I looked at some old picture of my soulmate, my dog Bella, who I had to put down and I miss her every day. A friend saw me and that I was crying and said “Really? after all this time?” and my response was Snapes “Always”. I will not go deeper into it because I do not want to start crying now. But this is so deep and a world can change so much and I think J.K. Rowling shows that a simple word like “Always” can mean so much. I think I now said what I needed to say in this blog post and I hope you enjoyed reading it. If you want to interact with me, I am on FB and twitter! And I have a blog where I write about books and on my blog there is a entry for a giveaway.
